JP ministers skip cabinet meeting

The Jatiya Party ministers of the polls-time cabinet did not join the regular cabinet meeting on Monday, Cabinet Division sources said.

Cabinet Secretary M Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan told reporters that they had contacted with the JP ministers. But the ministers had informed that they would not join the meeting.

He added: “There was no seat reserved for the JP ministers in today’s meeting as they had sent back the folder containing the notice for the meeting.”

Ruhul Amin Howlader, secretary general of Jatiya Party, on Sunday said: “We will not join Monday’s cabinet meeting as we all have resigned from it.”

He made the announcement while talking to journalists after paying a visit to the President, Abdul Hamid, on Sunday night.

Regarding the resignation issue of JP ministers, Ruhul Amin said: “The resignation of the ministers have been sent to the prime minister.”

However, he didn’t confirm how the letters were sent or whether those had reached  the PM’s office.

Earlier on December 4, Ershad had asked his party members to resign from the polls-time cabinet and withdraw their nomination papers.

On December 3, HM Ershad declared his party would not participate in the upcoming elections without participations of all political parties.

The 10th general elections are to be held on January 5 next year.
