BNP Standing Committee member RA Gani on Sunday urged the government not to lead the country towards further conflict.
He made the call at a press conference at the party’s Gulshan office in the city on Sunday evening.
He said: “The government should not lead the country towards further conflict by repressing opposition party members.”
RA Gani alleged that the ruling party members have been conducting subsequent attacks on the party offices of BNP-led 18-party alliance.
He said: “The members [devoted] of law enforcing agencies are arresting a number of BNP leaders and activists, filing false and fabricated cases across the country. Besides, they are misbehaving with the family members of the arrestees.”
Claiming that police opened fire on a number of peaceful processions of the opposition members, he said: “In such situation, no room for holding talks with the government has been left.”
Forewarning the government, the politician further said the “torture and repression” on the opposition leaders and activists would intensify the ongoing movement.”
On behalf of his party chief Khaleda Zia, he thanked the people of the country and the party members for making the second phase of the blockade a success.
