Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad said he will persuade BNP for polls if President Abdul Hamid moves for a consensus between the two main political parties.
The comment was made at an unusual move during 6am talks with journalists at his Baridhara residence Sunday morning, Ershad’s press secretary Sunil Shuvo Roy said.
This Dhaka Tribune reporter caught up with Sunil Shuvo Roy, the press secretary of HM Ershad to confirm this news.
“But Awami League wants a lop-sided polls, they want to score a goal in an empty field,” Ershad said. “Can this be tolerated?”
“The main problem of this country now is Hasina. BNP does not want to participate in an election under her,” he said.
“But, if the president moves for a consensus, I will persuade BNP to participate in the elections,” Ershad said during his morning chatter.
Jatiya Party has made the headlines in recent times with their actions regarding the elections.
In his latest move, Ershad said he will participate in the upcoming elections if all other parties participate in it. Earlier he said he would boycott polls.
