Law enforcers allegedly tried to detain Jamuna Group Chairman Nurul Islam Babul while he was leaving Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad’s Baridhara residence on Thursday.
The alleged move came soon after a press briefing there which said Jatiya Party ministers had submitted their ministerial resignations to party Chairman Ershad.
Nurul Islam Babul is also the husband of JP leader Salma Islam, running state minister for youth and sports minister of the polls-time cabinet.
However, Babul is not affiliated with Jatiya Party.
Salma Islam has been seen close to Ershad in recent times.
Jatiya Party Presidium Member Mir Abdus Sabur Asud made the claim of detention.
However, Rab 1 Deputy Assistant Director Mokhlesur Rahman refuted such allegations, “We do not know of this.”
Law enforcers were seen in heavy deployment near the Baridhara residence of HM Ershad from after his announcement to step down from the national polls.
However, police said it was just a security precaution for the diplomatic zone since a lot of party supporters were crowding there.
