Resign or face punishment, Ershad to JP ministers

Jatiya Party (JP) Chairman HM Ershad asked all seven ministers of his party to submit their resignations by today adding that in case of faliure they would have to face punishement.

Major Rtd Khaled Akhtar, personal secretary of Ershad, confirmed the news to the Dhaka Tribune Thursday morning.

Quoting Ershad, he said: “All JP ministers are asked to submit their resignations by Thursday. If anyone does not follow the directive, stern actions will be taken against them for violating the party’s policies.”

However, no JP ministers except GM Quader, was noticed at their secretariat offices till filing the report around 1pm.

Earlier, on Wednesday, JP General Secretary Ruhul Amin Howlader made the announcement regarding the resignations after an emergency meeting with the party chief HM Ershad.

The JP chief called the emergency meeting two hours after he ordered his party ministers to resign from the polls-time cabinet.

On the same day, Ershad directed his party members to withdraw nomination for the upcoming election

Earlier, on Tuesday, some minister of the party did not join their officer at the secretariat.

Later in the day, HM Ershad declared his party would not participate in the upcoming elections without participations of all political parties.

On Friday, JP announced its candidates for 299 constituencies for the 10th national parliamentary election.

The 10th general elections is to be held on January 5 next year.

The main opposition BNP-led alliance rejected the poll schedule and announced to observe a number of agitation programmes till their demand of caretaker government system is met.
