PM: Arsonists, inciters to face the music

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Tuesday said those involved in arson, destruction and acts of sabotage in the name of movement and their instigators would be dealt with an iron hand.

The evil elements, which belong to the anti-liberation force and have no faith in the existence of this country, are playing with fire, she alleged.

“We have information that they are now hatching conspiracy to sink ferry and steamer,” the prime minister told a gathering of garment owners and workers during her visit to the gutted garment factory of Standard Group at Konabari in Gazipur, according to BSS.

Unruly garment workers, hearing a rumour of death of two fellow workers, set fire to two 10-storey factory buildings on November 28, killing two staff and causing a massive damage to property.

The premier claimed that the “evil force” resorted to damaging the garment sector when the government had taken steps to improve by giving the workers a better life and necessary support for the sector’s sustenance in the competitive world market.

She assured that the affected owner of the factory would be given all support from the government to rebuild his factory and the culprits responsible for the arson would be brought to the book.

Hasina also urged the workers to build up resistance against such subversive activities to stop recurrence of such acts and assist the law enforcers with information.

President of BGMEA Atiqul Islam, President of FBCCI Kazi Akram Uddin Ahmed, Water Resources Minister Anisul Islam Mahmud, PM’s Adviser Ziauddin Ahmed Bablu, and Chairman of Standard Group Mosharraf Hossain were present.
