Obaidul: It’s not final word of Ershad

Communications Minister Obaidul Quader said Ershad’s move to boycott Jatiya Party from the polls was not his “final decision.”

The minister made the comment while responding to Ershad’s announcement earlier in the day of boycotting upcoming national elections.

“The country is going through political instability. Some unbelievable incidents are happening in recent days,” said Obaidul. He also said the political situation will stabilise within the next seven days.

He added: “The government will take tougher actions against those involved with the recent political violence.”

Asked about Khaleda Zia’s statement urging demonstrators not to harm innocent citizens, he said it is a mockery to the people who are fighting death in hospitals.

Earlier on Tuesday, a day after submitting his nomination paper, Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad announced that his party would not participate in the upcoming elections as all political parties did not submit nomination papers.
