Blockade supporters attacked the motorcade of LGRD minister and Awami Legaue General Secretary Syed Ashraful Islam in Tongi on Monday morning.
The incident took place during a nationwide blockade programme of the BNP-led 18-party alliance.
Blockade supporters hurled several crude bombs at the motorcade of the minister in Tongi College Gate area around 8:30am, witnesses said.
Several vehicles were said to have been vandalised at scene.
Dhaka Tribune Gazipur correspondent acquired a video footage of the incident. Explosions were heard when the motorcade was passing by.
Gazipur police Additional Superintendent Mostafizur Rahman admitted that the minister was passing through the area at that time.
However, he said that the blasts took place after the motorcade passed by. The minister was headed for Kishoreganj.
Meanwhile, Personal Officer of Syed Ashraf, Syed Tofazzel Hossain, denied the incident when Dhaka Tribune Correspondent Imran Hossain contacted him.
