DU blue panel teachers protest political violence

A group of Dhaka University teachers yesterday formed a human chain to protest the ongoing political violence as another group brought out a silent procession demanding the cancellation of the polls schedule and restoration of caretaker government.

The Awami League-backed blue panel teachers formed the human chain around 11:30am at the foot of the Aparejeyo Bangla.

Panel Convener Dr Abdul Aziz said urged the BNP to stop violence and take part in the next national polls to continue the flow of democracy.

Farid Uddin Ahmed, president of Dhaka University Teachers Association (DUTA), said the BNP-led alliance was “carrying out violence to foil the war crimes trials.” He urged the government to ensure punishment to those responsible for vandalism of and arson attack on public transports and killing scores of innocent people.

Dr MA Aziz, convener of the blue panel, presided over the programme while Dr Shafiul Alam Bhuayan, chairperson of Film and Media Studies, spoke at the programme.

The procession of the BNP-backed white panel teachers marched different streets of the campus before arriving at the National Press Club.

Participants included Dr Sadrul Amin, convener of the white panel; Dr Mamun Ahmed, secretary general of DUTA; Dr Tajmeri S A Islam; and Dr Akthar Hossain.
