Shibir calls hartal for Sunday in Chittagong

Shibir, the student-wing of Jamaat-e-Islami, has called a dawn-to-dusk hartal in the port city for Sunday protesting the arrest of its North unit president Kutubuddin Shiblee.

The announcement was made through a press released on Friday. Shibir’s Chittagong unit Publicity Secretary Jamil Uddin confirmed the news to the Dhaka Tribune.

On Thursday, police arrested him from Sitakunda upazila of Chittagong for the recent mayhem on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway.

The arrest was made for his alleged involvement with attacks on police, rampage on the highway and violence in the area.

Meanwhile, local unit of main opposition BNP called a daylong hartal in Chittagong district for the same day protesting arrest of party Chairperson's advisor Mir Mohammad Nasir Uddin and central committee Organising Secretary Golam Akbar Khandaka.
