German envoy for release of BNP leaders

“I urge the minister to do everything for the release of the senior BNP leaders who have been in prison for quite some time,” he said.

The envoy was speaking after holding a meeting with Forein Minister Abul Hasan Mahmud Ali.

The comment comes amidst a political deadlock between the two major political parties in the country ahead of the upcoming national elections.

Frontline BNP leaders Moudud Ahmed, MK Anwar and Rafiqul Islam Miah, and two others – BNP chairperson's Advisor Abdul Awal Mintoo, and her special assitant Shimul Biswas were detained on November 7.

They were later shown to have been arrested in hartal violence-related cases.

The five leaders were denied bail multiple times including on Thursday.
