Jamaat calls hartal in Chittagong

The Chittagong district unit of Jamaat-e-Islami has called a day long hartal for Sunday, protesting the death of their two members in the recent times.

Jamaat city unit Publicity Secretary Mohammad Ullah confirmed the hartal to the Dhaka Tribune> He said it was in protest to the the deaths of two Jamaat supporters Aminul Islam and Jashim Uddin.

However, students of Primary School Certificate and mardasa equivalent Ebtedayee final Examinations will be excluded from the hartal.

Earlier police recovered the bullet-riddled body of Jamaat’s Barab Kunda union Unit General Sectary Aminul Islam from the city’s Shekerpara on Wednesday, while activist Jashim’s body was recovered early Saturday.

Jamaat Mirsarai upazila Ameer Robiul Islam claimed Jashim to be an activist of the party.

Mirsarai upazila police station Officer-in-charge Imtiaz Qader Hossain Bhuiyan said miscreants might have attacked and killed Jashim on Friday night.

Meanwhile he refuted Jashim’s identity as being that of a Jamaat activist.
