A local Jubo Dal leader was gunned down and his business associate injured by bullets by some unidentified miscreants at Nandigram in sadar upazila early yesterday.
Police said a group of miscreants numbering 10/12 had fired gunshots at Morshed Alam, son of Sirajul Islam of the village, general secretary of Bashikpur union unit of the BNP’s youth front, and his business associate Sumon in the area while they had been visiting their fish project in the dead of night, leaving Morshed dead on the spot and Sumon critically injured, reports BSS.
Hearing their screams, local people rescued Sumon and took him to a local hospital from where he was later shifted to Dhaka after his condition worsened.
On receiving information, police recovered the body and sent it to hospital morgue for an autopsy.
Iqbal Hossain, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station, confirmed the murder. A case was filed in this connection.
