Five people, including three admission seekers, were injured as Shibir activists, student wing of the Jamaat-e-Islami, locked into a clash with the law enforcers on the Rajshahi University Engineering and Technology campus just after the admission tests of the university ended on Saturday.
The admission test was held between 10am-12:30pm and a tense situation was prevailing on the campus as different students’ political organisations were taking preparation from the morning to welcome the freshers.
Witnesses said the clash ensued while the police barred a procession brought out by the Shibir activists welcoming the admission seekers at 12 noon.
Later, Shibir activists hurled bricks at the police who fired back tear shells and rubber bullets to disperse them, leaving five injured.
The injured were identified as admission seekers Sadad Hossain, Sawkat Hossain and Mujibur Rahman and two others were guardians of the students who were not identified.
Contacted, Abdul Mazid, officer-in-charge of Motihar police station, told the Dhaka Tribune that Shibir activists were trying to create an untoward situation during the admission test, adding that police dispersed the procession by firing rubber bullets.
Meanwhile, the activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League, student wing of ruling Awami League and Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, student wing of the BNP, also brought out processions on the Ruet campus welcoming the admission seekers.
