The Kapasia upazila unit of BNP has called a daylong hartal for Sunday, protesting an alleged Chhatra League attack on opposition party leaders.
Shakhawat Selim, secretary of the Kapasia unit of BNP, announced the shutdown at a rally held on Saturday afternoon.
Local sources said Chhatra League activists attacked a BNP gathering that was preparing to hold a rally in the Targon area this afternoon, leaving five BNP leaders, including Kapasia BNP unit President Khandaker Azizur Rahman Pera, injured.
The injured were admitted to Kapasia upazila health complex.
Khandaker Azizur was later shifted to Dhaka as his condition deteriorated.
Officer-in-chage of Kapasia police station Md Ahsan Ullah said the situation is now under control.
