US Assistant Secretary for South and Central Asian Affairs Nisha Desai Biswal will meet Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and opposition chief Khaleda Zia during her trip to Dhaka.
She is expected to arrive in Dhaka on a three-day trip on November 16. “Biswal will call on the prime minister when she will be in the city,” said an official of the foreign ministry.
The prime minister did not meet her predecessor Robert O Blake when he visited Bangladesh last year.
In her first bilateral visit to Dhaka, Biswal will discuss global, regional, and bilateral priorities with Bangladesh officials and opposition political leaders.
This will be her first bilateral trip after she was sworn in as the assistant secretary on October 21, replacing Robert O Blake.
Meanwhile, a senior BNP leader told the Dhaka Tribune on Thursday that Biswal would also meet opposition leader and BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia at 8:30pm on Sunday.
“Nisha Desai Biswal will meet BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia at her Gulshan office on Sunday,” Shamsher Mobin Chowdhury said.
