PM: Part of media spreads 'sugar coated' information

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Monday said a part of the media was spreading “sugar coated” information, overlooking the basic principles of journalism and democracy.

Indicating a section of the media, she said: “They do not even obey the constitution and are trying to mislead people with their false news and indulgence in terrorism and militancy.”

She made the statement while inaugurating the newly constructed eight-storied building of Bangladesh Press Institute (PIB) in the capita, according to BSS.

The prime minister said these activities would only encourage the anti-liberation forces and their followers.

Talking about the current political scenario, she said her government wants to uphold the constitution.

Meanwhile, she urged journalists to support holding a free, fair and neutral election in the country.

She also said around 5,803 polls of different levels were held and some 64,023 representatives were elected during the ruling party tenure but no one was able to raise any question against them regarding vote manipulation.

She claimed upcoming general election will also be held in the same manner.

Information Minister Hasanul Haque Inu, Rashed Khan Menon, MP, Prime Minter's Media Advisor Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury and Chairman of PIB Habibur Rahman Milon, among others were present in the programme.
