Fakhrul: AL stopped chances of dialogue

Awami Leauge has removed scope for dialogue, BNP acting Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir alleged on Monday.

The BNP leader was referring to the statements made during Awami League's Sunday rally at the capital's Suhrawardy Udyan on Sunday.

During the Sunday rally the Awami League said they will not sit for talks with BNP unless the 60-hour hartal was withdrawn.

“Their statement is clear, they are not sincere about a dialogue,” Mirza Fakhrul said at a press briefing at the BNP's Nayapaltan headquarters on Monday morning.

The BNP leader alleged that the Awami League had clouded the situation regarding dialogue by “speaking different at separate places.”

He underlined that BNP were “ready at this instant” to sit for talks with the government over a non-partisan poll-time administration.

The ruling Awami League and main opposition BNP are in disagreement over how the upcoming national elections should take place.

The ruling party wants an all-party cabinet to oversee the poll, while the opposition demands a neutral caretaker body.

So far both parties remain commited to their respective positions.
