Ishraque: Party did not want this; I am resigning on my own

State Minister for Liberation War Affairs Ishraque Hossain has said he is resigning on his own, despite the party’s wishes, citing specific reasons.

“I am resigning on my own. The party did not want this. I am compelled to resign for specific reasons,” he told journalists on Monday afternoon, shortly before formally announcing his resignation.

“I am resigning for specific reasons, but the war against drugs will continue,” Ishraque said.

He added that the current situation had arisen because of the anti-drug operations he had carried out, leading to his resignation from the cabinet despite the party’s opposition.

“The party did not want this; I took this decision myself. From now on, I will be even more aggressive in the field. I am declaring war on drugs,” he said.

Earlier, while leaving his residence, Ishraque personally removed the ministerial emblem from his vehicle.
