BCL leader’s tendon severed ‘Shibir style’

Unidentified assailants attacked a Chhatra League leader and severed the tendons in his leg in Kanojgari area, Bogra district on Thursday noon.

The victim, Benzir Ahmed, is a convener of the organisation’s economics department committee in the disctrict’s Government Azizul Haque College.

Syed Shaheed Alam, officer-in-charge of Sadar police station, said the attack was fashioned “Shibir-style”.

The police official said Benzir was on his way back home after he sat for an examination in the district’s Government Shah Sultan College.

Witnesses said a gang of seven to eight individuals set off crude bombs to create panic in the scene then swooped in on Benzir with machetes and other sharp weapons.

Benzir was rushed to Mohammad Ali Hospital with severe injuries in hand and leg. He was later referred to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College hospital, where doctors confirmed the criticality of his condition, police and hospital sources said.

Al Raji Jewel, president of Chhatra League’s Bogra unit, claimed that Shibir activists made the attack on Benzir.

He said the process of filing a case is underway.
