BNP Chairperson and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has ordered Ferdousi Ahmed Mishti, a BNP lawmaker from a reserved women’s seat, to resign following the attack and vandalism at the Radda MCH-FP Centre in the capital’s Mirpur area.
Atikur Rahman Rumon, additional press secretary to the prime minister, confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune
He said the decision was taken by the party’s highest policymaking body on Wednesday.
Earlier, party and government sources had indicated that the BNP could take action against Mishti over the incident involving the Radda health centre.
However, it was not immediately clear whether Mishti had formally submitted her resignation.
Shayrul Kabir Khan, a member of the BNP’s media cell, told Bangla Tribune that he had heard about the matter from several sources but was trying to gather more details.
The Radda MCH-FP Centre was attacked, looted and demolished on September 25. Mishti has denied involvement in the incident. Meanwhile, Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed said on Wednesday that an investigation was under way into the alleged involvement of an MP in the incident and that action would be taken if the allegation was established.
