14-party alliance to hold countrywide rallies November 1

The ruling Awami League-led 14-party alliance will hold rallies across the country on November 1 protesting violence carried out by activists of BNP-led 18-party alliance during its strike.

The ruling party alliance also hailed Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for her initiative for talks with the opposition leader, saying as BNP did not respond to PM’s call, now BNP would have to take the initiative for dialogue.

The decision came from a meeting of the 14-party alliance at AL President Sheikh Hasina’s Dhanmondi office with Samyabadi Dal General Secretary Dilip Barua in the chair.

Briefing the reporters, AL Presidium member Mohammad Nasim, also spokesperson of the 14-party alliance, said they would hold rallies and processions across the country including in the capital on November 1 in protest against anarchy by the opposition activists.

Nasim called upon people from all strata to put up resistance in their localities against subversive activities of the evil forces.

Responding to a query about dialogue, Workers Party President Rashed Khan Menon said the premier had taken initiative for talks through making phone call to Khaleda Zia.

“As BNP did not respond to it positively, now they [BNP] would have to talk to the prime minister,” he said, adding that they wanted a peaceful solution to the crisis.

The meeting was, among others, attended by 14-party leaders Sharif Nurul Ambia, Fazley Hossain Badsha, Mahabub-Ul-Alam Hanif, Jahangir Kabir Nanak, Khalid Mahamud Chowdhury, Asim Kumar Ukil and Asit Baron Roy.
