Jamaat ameer congratulates President-elect Fakhrul

Opposition Leader and Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman has congratulated BNP candidate Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on his election as Bangladesh’s 23rd president.

Mirza Fakhrul secured 255 votes in Thursday’s presidential election.

In a Facebook post after the results were announced, Shafiqur congratulated the newly elected president and expressed hope that he would uphold justice, strengthen democracy, and protect the country’s independence and sovereignty.

“Today, August 20, 2026, the election for Bangladesh’s 23rd president was held. I extend my heartfelt congratulations to Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on being elected the 23rd president,” he said.

The Jamaat chief also expressed hope that Fakhrul would use his “utmost ability and wisdom” in discharging his responsibilities as head of state.

“I wish the newly elected President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir good health and longevity,” Shafiqur said.
