Swechhasebak Dal leader dies in Faridpur hartal violence

A Swechhasebak Dal leader was killed and 11 others were injured, three with bullets, in a clash between police and hartal supporters in the early hours of the opposition’s 60-hour hartal in Nagarkanda upazila headquarters on Sunday, reports UNB. The deceased was identified as Maruf Sheikh, 20, president of Swechhasebak Dal Nagarkanda Pourasava ward 2. Police and witnesses said the clash erupted around 8am as police obstructed hartal supporters while they were trying to put barricades on a road, leaving Maruf dead on the spot. Officer-in charge of the Faridpur sadar police station Abdul Karim confirmed the incident. Two of the three bullet-wounded people were admitted to Faridpur Medical College Hospital.
