Fakhrul: AL fears inclusive polls

BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said Awami League fears fair, neutral and inclusive elections.

He repeated this statement twice during a press briefing held at the party's Nayapaltan headquarters in the capital on Saturday.

Fakhrul asserted that BNP's anti-government movement will continue until the the caretaker government provision is restored.

The opposition leader condemned “countrywide killings, attacks, torture, suppression, arrests, cases and harassment of opposition supporters” during the BNP nationwide programme on Friday.

He alleged that these actions were carried out by police, Rapid Action Battalion, Border Guard Bangladesh, and “cadres” of the ruling party.

Fakhrul said eight were killed and more than 650 injured throughout the country by these forces on Friday.

“It is very unfortunate that Awami League is trying to polarise law enforcers.”

In response to a question, the BNP leader said there was no ambiguity in Khaleda Zia's speech given on Friday.

Referring to calling curtains on daily Amar Desh and Diganta Television, Fakhrul alleged that the government choked the freedom of the press.

Fakhrul said the Awami League was a party which exercised brute force and weaponry against the opposition for the past five years.
