Speaking at an emergency press conference late Thursday night, spokesperson Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said this was a gesture of “peace and understanding” from on behalf of BNP.
The press conference was held at BNP Chairperson's Gulshan office.
The BNP acting secretary general referred to Awami League and said it was a bad indication that the ruling party was gathering men throughout the capital on Friday.
“The government must take responsibility for any untoward incident arising out of this,” he said.
Earlier in the day, Awami League Joint Secretary Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif called upon supporters to resist “any anarchy, conspiracy and violence created by BNP.”
Fakhrul urged Awami League to call this off.
In the afternoon, Dhaka Metropolitan Police granted conditional permission for BNP to hold their rally at Suhrawardy Udyan.
However, BNP were adamant on Nayapaltan as the venue of their rally. They sent a delegation to the authorities again in the evening for the matter.
Later the late night emergency press conference cleared all confusions.
Meanwhile, paramilitary force Border Guard Bangladesh, BGB, were rolling on city streets as part of heightened security measures in the capital ahead of the BNP rally.
