Khaleda to sit with BNP lawmakers tonight

BNP Chairperson and leader of the opposition Khaelda Zia will sit with the party’s members of parliament tonight to analyse the current political situation of the country.

“Madam [Khaleda] has called the parliamentary party’s meeting tomorrow at her Gulshan office at 8pm,” Zainul Abdin Farroque, the opposition chief whip, told the Dhaka Tribune last night.

Sahiduddin Chowdhury Annie said the leader of the opposition had called the meeting to discuss the current political situation.

A lawmaker seeking anonymity told the Dhaka Tribune that if the government took initiative to amend the constitution the opposition MPs would join parliament. If the government did not, they might resign, he said.

The BNP chief held a meeting with the party’s standing committee members on Saturday and with the leaders of the BNP-led 18 party alliances on Sunday. On Monday she addressed a press conference to present a proposal on the polls-time interim government.
