Jatiya Party in talks with PM

A day after saying the prime minister’s all-party cabinet proposal lacks clarity, Jatiya Party sat in talks with the premier at Ganabhaban Sunday evening.

Sources said a 15-man delegation of Jatiya Party, headed by its chairman Hussein Muhammad Ershad, attended the meeting that began around 7pm.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was accompanied by the top brass of Awami League. Obaidul Quader, Matia Chowdhury, Kazi Zafarullah, Mohammad Nasim, Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury, Amir Hossain Amu, Tofail Ahmed, Suranjit Sengupta and Syed Ashraful Isalm were said to be present.

The meeting is expected to be followed by a dinner session.

An insider seeking anonymity told the Dhaka Tribune that this meeting, unlike others, was being held at the behest of Sheikh Hasina.

Jatiya Party is the second largest member of the Awami League-led 14-party grand alliance.

Earlier on Saturday, Jatiya Party released an official statement where they said that the prime minister’s proposal of all-party cabinet lacked clarity.

There were no specifics as to who would lead the cabinet or how a level-playing field would be ensured during elections, the statement said.
