Mirza Fakhrul: Tarique Rahman saved country from ruins

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Friday said BNP Chairman and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has “saved the country from ruins,” crediting him with rebuilding economic and institutional stability.

He made the remarks as a special guest at a May Day discussion organized by the Bangladesh Jatiotabadi Shramik Dal at Naya Paltan in Dhaka. Tarique Rahman attended the program as the chief guest.

Fakhrul said Tarique Rahman is shaping a “state structure” through the “I Have a Plan” initiative. “He is not only the leader of the party, he is a symbol of the working people. He has saved the country from ruins. The banks and the economy had been destroyed. He has rebuilt them,” he said.

He also referred to workers killed in past movements and thanked Tarique Rahman for initiatives to rehabilitate hawkers. He called for the introduction of a minimum wage for workers.

Fakhrul stressed the need to ensure education for workers’ children and improve living conditions for tea workers.

He added that a “true statesman” spoke in parliament the previous day, and said Tarique Rahman aims to build a prosperous Bangladesh, describing him as the son of leaders who have long worked for democracy.
