The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has issued a show-cause notice to Ashraful Islam, president of its Ramna Thana unit under Dhaka South, for filing a case against Nasiruddin Patwari, chief coordinator of the National Citizen Party (NCP).
The notice was issued on Sunday night through a statement signed by the party’s Senior Joint Secretary General and Political Adviser to the Prime Minister, Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi.
According to the statement, on the morning of Sunday, Ashraful Islam filed a case against Nasiruddin Patwari without taking prior approval from the party.
The statement said the action violated the party’s organizational discipline. He has been instructed to submit a written explanation within 48 hours to the party’s central office in Naya Paltan explaining why disciplinary action should not be taken against him.
Earlier in the morning, Ashraful Islam filed an application with a court against Nasiruddin Patwari.
In the application, it was stated that during the 13th parliamentary election, Nasiruddin Patwari contested with the “Shapla Koli” symbol and lost by a large margin to Mirza Abbas. During the election period, the accused allegedly made several false and defamatory remarks.
It further alleged that after losing the election by a huge margin, he continued to spread false and defamatory statements and issue threats through various social media platforms and online outlets.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Hasan Shahadat has issued a summons asking Nasiruddin Patwari to appear before the court in a defamation, intimidation and contempt case filed by Mirza Abbas, a standing committee member of BNP and political adviser to the prime minister.
Lawyer for the plaintiff, Amirul Islam (Amir), said the court recorded the plaintiff’s statement and issued the summons for the accused to appear before the court.
