Chhatra Dal leader expelled over Facebook post on Hasnat Abdullah

The Chittagong University unit of Chhatra Dal has expelled its communications secretary, Shahriar Uddin, on charges of breaching organisational discipline.

It's General Secretary Abdullah Al Noman confirmed the matter to the media around 8pm on Saturday. The decision was approved earlier by Chhatra Dal President Rakibul Islam Rakib and General Secretary Nasir Uddin Nasir.

According to party sources, Shahriar was removed from his post following a recent Facebook post about Hasnat Abdullah, member of parliament from the Comilla-4 constituency and chief organiser of the southern region of the National Citizen Party (NCP).

In the post, Shahriar wrote: “Whatever the party’s position, there is no denying that the boys of Debidwar now want to become Hasnat.”

Contacted for comment, Shahriar said he had not been officially informed of the specific reason behind his expulsion.

“It was an organisational decision. I am not thinking about it now,” he added.
