Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has reappointed Professor Mia Golam Parwar as its secretary general as the party formed a new central committee for the next three years.
In addition to reappointing Golam Parwar, the party constituted a 59-member Central Majlis-e-Shura and an 88-member Central Working Committee. The tenure of the new committee will expire in 2028.
The committee was formed on Friday (February 20) morning at a virtual meeting of the party’s Central Majlis-e-Shura following consultations among its leaders. The meeting was presided over by Jamaat Ameer and Leader of the Opposition in Parliament Dr. Shafiqur Rahman. However, the nayeb-e-ameer, secretary general and assistant secretaries general attended the meeting in person.
The party formed the new central committee three months after Dr. Shafiqur Rahman was elected as Jamaat ameer on November 2 last year. During the virtual meeting, the ameer, in consultation with the Central Majlis-e-Shura, elected and administered the oath to the party’s central leaders for the 2026–2028 term.
The new committee includes four nayeb-e-ameer (deputy chiefs): ATM Azharul Islam (MP), Professor Mujibur Rahman (MP), Dr. Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher (MP), and Maulana ANM Shamsul Islam.
Seven leaders have been appointed as assistant secretaries general: Maulana ATM Masum, Maulana Rafiqul Islam Khan (MP), Dr. Hamidur Rahman Azad, Maulana Abdul Halim, Advocate Muazzam Hossain Helal, Maulana Muhammad Shahjahan, and Advocate Ehsanul Mahbub Zubair.
The 21-member Central Executive Council comprises: ATM Azharul Islam (MP), Professor Mujibur Rahman (MP), Dr. Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher (MP), Mia Golam Parwar, Maulana ATM Masum, Maulana Rafiqul Islam Khan (MP), Dr. Hamidur Rahman Azad, Maulana Abdul Halim, Advocate Muazzam Hossain Helal, Maulana Muhammad Shahjahan, Advocate Ehsanul Mahbub Zubair, Abdur Rab, Saiful Alam Khan Milon (MP), Principal Md. Shahabuddin, Principal Md. Izzat Ullah (MP), Advocate Matiur Rahman Akand, Md. Mobarak Hossain, Md. Nurul Islam Bulbul (MP), Mohammad Selim Uddin, Dr. Shafiqul Islam Masud (MP), and Dr. Mohammad Rezaul Karim.
According to a press release, the 88-member Central Working Committee includes 21 women members, while the 59-member Central Majlis-e-Shura has 17 women members.
A five-member Central Election Commission has also been formed. The members are: Chief Election Commissioner Maulana ATM Masum, and commissioners Advocate Muazzam Hossain Helal, Abdur Rab, Mobarak Hossain, and Maulana AFM Abdus Sattar.
To expedite organizational activities, the party has divided the country, including Dhaka, into 14 regions and created the post of regional director.
The regional directors are: Maulana Abdul Halim (Rangpur-Dinajpur), ATM Azharul Islam (Bogra), Maulana Rafiqul Islam Khan (Rajshahi), Mobarak Hossain (Kushtia-Jessore), Principal Md Izzat Ullah (Khulna), Advocate Muazzam Hossain Helal (Barisal), Principal Md. Shahabuddin (Mymensingh), Mia Golam Parwar (Dhaka Metropolitan), Saiful Alam Khan Milon (Dhaka North), Abdur Rab (Dhaka South), Dr Hamidur Rahman Azad (Faridpur), Advocate Ehsanul Mahbub Zubair (Sylhet), Maulana ATM Masum (Comilla-Noakhali), and Maulana Muhammad Shahjahan (Chittagong).
