Krishak Dal leader arrested with yaba pills in Chittagong

A Krishak Dal leader was arrested with 28 yaba pills during a joint force drive in Chittagong’s Anwara upazila early Wednesday.

The arrestee, Salahuddin Sumon, is the senior joint convener of Anwara upazila Krishak Dal and also the senior joint convener of the South District Krishak Dal. He is the son of Mohammad Mia Master of Barumchhara area.

According to police, members of the army detained Sumon with 28 pieces of yaba during a raid at his residence in Ward No. 1 of Barumchhara at dawn on February 11. Six others were also detained on suspicion during the drive and later handed over to police.

Confirming the matter, Anwara Police Station Officer-in-Charge Junayed Chowdhury said the army handed Sumon over to the police station after detaining him with the yaba pills. The six other detainees were also handed over.

A case has been filed against Sumon under the Narcotics Act, and he has been sent to court, the OC said.

It was also learned that Sumon has been performing duties on the election coordination committee of Sarwar Jamal Nizam, the BNP-nominated candidate contesting with the sheaf of paddy symbol in the Chittagong-13 (Anwara-Karnaphuli) constituency.
