Charmonai Pir and Islami Andolan Bangladesh Ameer Mufti Syed Muhammad Rezaul Karim and said on Saturday that Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has “become separated from Islam” and accused the party of using religion to pursue conspiratorial political goals.
“Islami Andolan is not alone now; they (Jamaat) have become alone. Those who had used Islam as a cover to conspire will not run the country under Sharia law. They have separated themselves from Islam. Islam-loving people have left them and joined us,” he told supporters at an election rally for KM Billal Hossain, Islami Andolan Bangladesh’s nominated candidate for the Munshiganj-2 constituency.
The rally was held at the Sonarang Amtali Madrasa field in Tongibari upazila, Munshiganj, on Saturday afternoon. Rezaul Karim spoke as the chief guest and prayed for votes for Billal Hossain.
Addressing IAB’s departure from Jamaat-led alliance, he said: “After the July uprising, a group of power-seekers began dreaming individually of coming to power. We were walking the path with a pure heart. They created various conspiracies to entangle us. Either we would fall into the trap, or we would become isolated.”
He further alleged that while other Islamic parties were denied the opportunity to field candidates in constituencies of their key leaders, Jamaat-backed candidates were placed in every constituency of IAB. “They created traps to block us and remove us,” he said.
Rezaul Karim also criticized secret dealings with foreign powers, saying, “We love the country. And they secretly hold meetings with America in the name of love for this country.”
