Kurigram JCD activist succumbs to wounds

After fighting for his life for 10 days, a Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal activist of Kurigram succumbed to his injuries at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital early on Sunday.

Police sources said Chhatra Dal activist Shafiqul was injured on September 25, during clashes between two Chhatra Dal factions outside the Kurigram Town Hall, where the student wing’s representative council was taking place. Shafiqul took shelter inside the Kurigram Government College premises, where a group of criminals allegedly assaulted him.

Shafiqul was initially admitted to the Kurigram Sadar Hospital, but when his condition started deteriorating, he was eventually brought to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where he died on Sunday.

District Chhatra Dal Convener Mohiuddin Jahangir claimed that Shafiqul was critically wounded during an assault by criminal elements from Bangladesh Chhatra League.

However, the BCL’s district unit president Minhazul Islam Aiyub denied the allegation, claiming that Chhatra Dal was trying to shift the blame of its own internal dispute to others.
