Dhaka-18: Jamaat nominee Ashraful Haque withdraws in favour of NCP’s Adeeb

Jamaat-e-Islami–nominated candidate Principal Ashraful Haque has withdrawn his candidacy in favour of National Citizen Party (NCP) Dhaka Metropolitan North Convener Ariful Islam Adeeb for the Dhaka-18 constituency in the 13th Jatiya Sangsad election.

Ashraful Haque disclosed the decision in a press release issued on Saturday.

In the statement, he said he has long been connected with the people of the Dhaka-18 constituency, sharing in their joys and sorrows. He added that he had been campaigning as a parliamentary candidate with the support of the people and the trust of his party.

However, he said that in the interest of greater unity and alliance politics, and in line with the party’s decision, Jamaat has left the Dhaka-18 seat to its alliance partner, the NCP, whose candidate is Ariful Islam Adeeb.

Ashraful Haque further said that safeguarding the interests of the country and Islam is more important to him than personal ambition. Emphasizing the importance of unity for victory, he urged his supporters to work wholeheartedly for NCP candidate Ariful Islam Adeeb.
