JCD and Shibir engage in chase, counter chase

The student wings of the BNP and its key ally Jamaat-e-Islami were locked in a chase and counter chase on Saturday, during the 18-party public rally at Sylhet’s Aliya Madrasa grounds.

Activists of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal engaged in a chase and counter-chase with Islami Chhatra Shibir activists, over which party got to sit on the front row of the rally during speeches by leaders of the alliance.

Sources said BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia arrived at the venue of the rally at around 3:15pm from her circuit house in Sylhet.

The rally is the fifth of the eight rallies the opposition alliance had scheduled to carry out throughout the country to try and stimulate public support for their demand that the next general election be held under a non-partisan, caretaker government.
