BNP delegation holds meeting with CEC

A BNP delegation held a meeting with Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin, led by BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed.

The meeting began at 3pm on Monday at the office of the chief election commissioner in the Election Commission Building in Agargaon, Dhaka.

Election Commissioner Abdur Rahmanel Masud and Election Commission Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed were also present at the meeting.

The other two members of the BNP delegation were Ismail Zabihullah, a member of the BNP chairperson’s Advisory Council and Dr Mohammad Zakaria, former acting secretary of the Election Commission.

Sources said BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman is scheduled to return to the country on December 25 and may contest the upcoming 13th National Parliamentary Election.

However, his name has not yet been included in the voter list. Under election rules, following the announcement of the election schedule, Election Commission approval is required for inclusion in the voter list and for contesting the election.

BNP leaders said the meeting with the CEC was held to discuss Tarique Rahman’s inclusion in the voter list and his eligibility to contest the election.
