Gono Odhikar Parishad President Nurul Haque Nur has said that the initiative to hold the national election and the referendum on the same day is being viewed positively.
Although there are differing opinions on certain aspects of implementing the July Charter, much of the uncertainty has been dispelled by the chief adviser’s speech, he said.
He made the comments on Friday while giving his party’s official response to the chief adviser’s address at the party’s central office in Bijoynagar, Dhaka.
Nurul Haque Nur said that divisions among political parties could jeopardise the national election.
“However, we believe that at this stage, holding the election and the referendum on the same day is the right decision,” he said.
According to him, the chief adviser has given importance to everyone’s opinions in the July Charter implementation order. Therefore, he stressed that all parties must remain united on the question of holding the national election in February.
Nur said that Gono Odhikar Parishad will field candidates in all 300 constituencies in the upcoming election.
He further alleged that “accomplices of Sheikh Hasina” are carrying out acts of sabotage across the country to disrupt the election, and urged all parties to remain vigilant.
General Secretary Rashed Khan and other central leaders were present at the press conference.
