Hasnat Abdullah, chief organizer for the southern region of the National Citizens Party (NCP), has expressed frustration over what he described as the marginalization of key contributors to the July Movement in the country’s ongoing political transition.
In a Facebook post on Saturday, Abdullah wrote: “The only visible reform this country has witnessed so far is what you see in this photo. When it comes to giving blood, we’ll be at the forefront, but when it comes to power, we’ll be nowhere to be found. Repeat!”
He shared two contrasting images with the post: one showing July Movement leaders present at the swearing-in of Dr Muhammad Yunus as head of the interim government, and another taken on Friday during the signing of the July National Charter — notably absent of those same figures.
The July Charter, signed at the South Plaza of the National Parliament Building, brought together 25 political parties in a show of unity and commitment to democratic reform.
Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus and several political leaders formally endorsed the document. However, some parties, including the NCP, were not present at the ceremony.
