Leaders and activists of the Gono Odhikar Parishad ended the blockade at Paltan Mor in Dhaka on Wednesday evening.
Traffic in the area returned to normal after the protest, which lasted from late afternoon to 6pm.
The protest called for banning the politics of the Awami League, Jatiya Party, and 14-party alliance, justice for the attack on Gono Odhikar Parishad President Nurul Haque Nur, and the resignation of the home affairs adviser
Meanwhile, Gono Odhikar Parishad’s General Secretary Rashed Khan announced a “Political Solidarity Rally Against Fascism” in Shahbagh at 3pm on Friday, saying all parties involved in the people’s uprising should participate.
He said Wednesday’s blockade, which had caused heavy traffic congestion, was lifted to prevent public inconvenience..
Khan also thanked the government for forming an investigation committee into the attack on Nurul Haque Nur and said such incidents would not be allowed again.
Earlier in the day, leaders and activists of Gono Odhikar Parishad blocked the capital’s Paltan intersection.The protesters set fire to tyres on the road, triggering severe traffic congestion.
Police were deployed around the protest site but did not intervene.
On Friday evening, clashes broke out between leaders and activists of Jatiya Party and Gono Odhikar Parishad when a procession from the latter passed by the Jatiya Party office in Kakrail.
Gono Odhikar Parishad claimed that several of their activists, including Nur, were injured when law enforcement officers charged them with batons during the incident.
