National Citizen Party Convener Nahid Islam has said the NCP will continue to uphold anti-hegemony and anti-aggression politics in the spirit of the July uprising martyrs.
Nahid, a key figure in the July uprising, made the vow remarks during a brief rally in Kushtia town on Tuesday, after concluding a march that began at Boro Bazar, as part of the party's July march program.
He said: “My brothers were martyred in Kushtia. The soil of Kushtia is stained with the blood of martyrs. This is the land where Abrar Fahad rests... He was killed by the criminal group Chhatra League for speaking in favour of the country and against hegemony. We are the successors of that Abrar Fahad. We are standing on the soil of that martyr. We are standing on the soil of Shaheed Yamin.”
Nahid continued: “We have made it very clear—from Shaheed Abrar to Shaheed Abu Sayed, and Shaheed Yamin—the people of Bangladesh have carried hope. The hope of a friendship-based politics in Bangladesh. The hope of politics that resists hegemony and aggression. We will move forward with that hope.”
He added: “We have fought against Indian hegemony. We have fought following the path of Abrar Fahad. If any political party or political force chooses to be a servant to that hegemony, we will stand against it. The people of Bangladesh will form resistance against it.”
“We have clearly raised the slogan—No slavery, we want freedom. We have freed ourselves from India’s servitude. In the days ahead, we will stand with honour and independence in Bangladesh. We will build our politics and state anew. Abrar Fahad and Shaheed Yamin of Kushtia taught us that. We hold that hope within us.”
Later, the party's march headed toward Meherpur.
Earlier, around 1:20pm, leaders and activists of the National Citizen Party (NCP), both from the central and local levels, visited the grave of slain Buet student Abrar Fahad—who was killed by the now-banned organization Chhatra League—in Raydanga village of Kumarkhali upazila in Kushtia.
Abrar’s parents were also present during the visit.
