Rapid Action Battalion personnel arrested 11 activists of Islami Chhatra Shibir along with huge explosives and jihadi books from a house in the capital’s Pikepara area on Wednesday night.
Captain Tahsin Salehin of Rab 4 said acting on a tip-off, a special team of Rab 4 raided a student mess in Mirpur’s Pikepara area around 10pm and arrested 11 Shibir men along with explosive materials and jihadi books.
“We also recovered petrol bombs, iron rods, anti-government leaflets and other publications from the Shibir den,” said Tahsin.
Rab claimed that those explosives and iron rods have been gathered for carrying out subversive acts during the second day of the 48-hour nationwide hartal.
Rab 4 officials informed that the detainees were the students of different educational institutions and they took part in arson attacks and vandalism during the first day of general strike.
Detail information would be provided at a briefing at 11am on Thursday.
