BNP leader Engineer Ishraque Hossain inspected the cleanliness operations of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) on the day of Eid-ul-Azha, Saturday.
He visited various areas under the DSCC to observe the waste management activities and also exchanged greetings with sanitation workers, inquiring about their well-being.
Ishraque Hossain said: “The government needs to play a more active role in waste management. Although a leather industrial estate has been established, it remains non-functional due to technical flaws, which is contributing to environmental pollution.”
He further added that more initiatives are required for a sustainable leather sector and if the BNP assumes power, the matter will be addressed with due importance.
Earlier, in a post on his verified Facebook page, Ishraque wrote: “The residents and voters of Dhaka must come forward to free both Dhaka North and South City Corporations from external advisors and administrators. Until necessary reforms are made to the current Local Government Division (LGRD)—one of the most controversial and corruption-ridden ministries—these corporations must be liberated from its clutches. Only through this can democracy be restored and the people’s voting rights be fully established.”
He further said: “You plan to set up control ward by ward and since you can’t return to your own district due to public outrage, you cling to a Dhaka seat and set up an election rigging system like Hasina’s. You postpone elections, engage in tender manipulation and transfers, and compete in plundering alongside Hasina—do you think the city dwellers will just sit idle and accept it?”
