Islami Chhatra Shibir, the student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami, brought out a procession in the capital’s Bijoynagar Water Tank area on Tuesday afternoon, protesting the death penalty handed down to Jamaat leader Abdul Quader Molla.
Sources said some 25-30 Shibir members brought out the procession and tried to block the road.
They also set-off several cocktail bombs and vandalised a private car in the area during the procession.
Police rushed to the spot and fired tear gas shells and rubber bullets to try and disperse the crowd.
