Tarique: Pohela Boishakh bright symbol of nation's identity

BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman has extended his greetings to the people on the occasion of the Bangla New Year, saying that this day returns to the nation's life time and again in various forms and meanings, and that Pohela Boishakh stands as a bright symbol of the nation's identity.

Tarique made the comment in a post on his verified Facebook page on Sunday afternoon, highlighting the significance of Pohela Boishakh.

Noting that the New Year shares an unbreakable bond with the excitement of nature and the revival of life, Tarique said: "Our culture and tradition are strong foundations that have been built since ancient times. Tradition, culture, and human values together shape a well-organized nation. Pohela Boishakh is a bright symbol of the nation's identity."

Calling for optimism in the New Year, the BNP leader said: "Every year, Pohela Boishakh inspires us to move forward toward excellence in the future, illuminated by the light of our past. The past glory and richness of our nation continue to resonate in our hearts."

Emphasizing the importance of establishing democracy in the present time, Tarique said: "Now, more than ever, we need a vibrant democracy. For this, we must foster a liberal outlook among the people and ensure the coexistence of diverse opinions, rooted in our culture and tradition."

In the context of global instability and violence, he said: "The year 1431 has witnessed many incidents and upheavals. As we stand at the dawn of 1432, we must understand that merely waiting for peace is not enough—the solution must come from selflessness. Only then will the bloodshed end and peace prevail."

He also warned against cultural domination, saying: "Foreign hegemonic powers are advancing a grand plan to establish cultural dominance and undermine the deep bonds of language and culture that have existed since ancient times. We must remain vigilant and conscious of this. It is essential to shake off the fatigue, disappointment, and sorrow of the past and move forward with renewed enthusiasm."

Expressing hope for the New Year, Tarique concluded: "On the first day of the New Year, I wish everyone well-being and peace. May falsehood, injustice, lawlessness, and unrest be wiped away by the warmth of Boishakh. May the breeze of peace flow throughout the land. Once again, I extend my heartfelt greetings and congratulations to the countrymen on the arrival of the 1432 Bengali year."
