BNP requests meeting with Prof Yunus to dispel election confusion

BNP Standing Committee Member Salahuddin Ahmed announced on Wednesday that the party will request a meeting with Chief Adviser Prof Yunus in order to clarify growing confusion surrounding the upcoming national election.

Speaking at a press briefing held at the BNP Chairperson’s political office in Gulshan, Dhaka, Salahuddin said: “There is growing uncertainty surrounding the election, and BNP will request the chief adviser to clarify the situation by outlining a clear roadmap.”

He also emphasized the BNP’s commitment to ensuring a balance of power among the three branches of the state—legislative, judiciary, and executive.

“We have submitted several proposals to the Constitutional Reform Commission, including the creation of the positions of vice president and deputy prime minister, the establishment of a bicameral parliament, and the appointment of a member from the opposition party as deputy speaker of parliament. If our proposals are implemented, they will ensure a balance of power among the three branches of the state,” Salahuddin said.

Addressing allegations against the party, he said: “There is confusion regarding some of the fundamental principles of state governance as defined in the Constitution. BNP wants the restoration of the state of affairs prior to the 15th amendment. Democracy began its journey by abolishing Baksal through that amendment. We have demanded the reinstatement of that situation. No proposal was made to abolish secularism, and any such claims are a misrepresentation.”

Salahuddin also welcomed the recent meeting between the chief adviser and the Indian prime minister.

“We appreciate the meeting and the discussions held, as they addressed issues that are deeply important to the people of Bangladesh. We commend this initiative,” he added.
