A group belonging to the Bangladesh Chhatra League beat up a student over a simmering enmity between the two at Rajshahi University Tuesday.
The victim was Abdullah, a second year student of law department of the university.
Witnesses said a group of Chhatra League activists of the university led by its Organizing Secretary Faisal Ahmed Runu and former Joint Secretary Sudipto Salam picked up Abdullah from the campus and took him to room no 232 at Bangabondhu Hall where they beat him up with rods and sticks.
After that, the group deposited the severely injured Abdullah at the hall gate.
Later, he was sent to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital by university ambulance.
Students said a few months back, the laptop belonging to Abdullah’s classmate had been stolen and they had suspected another classmate Saddam Hossain Sajib, who was also a Chhatra League activist, of having stolen the laptop.
Abdullah helped his friend to prove that it was in fact Sajib who had stolen the laptop.
From then on, Sajib was angry with Abdullah, and following the incident Sajib had beaten up the youth to take revenge.
But the accused Chhatra League activists denied the allegation.
