Zonayed Saki: India must acknowledge Hasina’s fall

Zonayed Saki, chief coordinator of the Ganosamhati Andolon, on Monday said that the Sheikh Hasina government has been overthrown by a mass uprising and India must recognize this reality.

He said that Bangladesh seeks dignified relations with India and other countries, urging India to stop its unilateral withdrawal of water from shared rivers, which he called a violation of international law.

He made these remarks while speaking to journalists at the inauguration of a two-day sit-in program organized by the River Protection Movement under the slogan "Jago Bahe, Teesta Bachai."

Saki further said: "The most important thing here is the unity of the people. When people are united, it is justified to overthrow a fascist government. Bangladesh has a remarkable future ahead. The world is waiting for us. This is only possible through the unity of the people. This is a battle for people's unity."

Addressing Dr Muhammad Yunus, chief adviser of the interim government, Saki said: "We want to tell Dr Muhammad Yunus to immediately address the issue of the Teesta and the other 54 rivers. The matter must be taken to international forums, and conventions must be signed. The future elected government must also take responsibility for these actions."
