Fakhrul: We must not fall into Hasina’s trap

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said the people of Bangladesh must not fall into ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina's trap.

Fakhrul made the call on Sunday in front of waiting journalists at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka upon his return from the United States.

"The students and people of Bangladesh achieved success in an uprising by overthrowing the fascist Hasina government... we must not fall into Hasina’s trap.”

He continued: “Today, the country’s stability is being disrupted, and unrest is spreading. The sole responsibility for this lies with Hasina’s fascist regime. We must tread carefully.”

BNP Media Cell member Shayrul Kabir Khan said Fakhrul and BNP Standing Committee Member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury landed at the airport at 4:58pm.

Meanwhile, BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman’s daughter, Barrister Zaima Rahman, returned to London from the US.

On Thursday and Friday, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, and Zaima Rahman attended the National Prayer Breakfast in Washington, US, as guests.

Regarding the trip, Fakhrul said their visit to the US was very successful. "The objectives we had were successfully achieved.

When asked about Begum Khaleda Zia’s health and whether she would receive treatment in the US, Fakhrul responded: “Madam is doing well. Her treatment is ongoing.”

Regarding Zaima Rahman’s experience as part of the delegation, he simply said: “Good, good experience.”

Mirza Fakhrul then addressed the journalists, saying: “Why do you not come to the main issue?”

Responding to questions about the country's situation, the BNP secretary general reiterated: "If we want to preserve our achievements, we must move forward cautiously and steadily.”

Fakhrul further said: “Darkness cannot be removed by another form of darkness. It must be dispelled with light. We must ignite that light and move forward.

“We call upon everyone to unite and work together to protect the country’s independence and sovereignty, maintain stability, and establish democracy against fascism.”

When asked about Operation Devil Hunt, Fakhrul responded: “We were abroad, so we do not know about Devil Hunt. But we do know what a fascist is. If there is a realization about this after so long, then I express my thanks for that."
